What are Stem Cells?

Stem cells have the remarkable potential to develop into many different cell types in the body during early life and growth. In addition, in many tissues they serve as a sort of internal repair system, piding essentially without limit to replenish other cells as long as the person or animal is still alive.

When a stem cell pides, each new cell has the potential either to remain a stem cell or become another type of cell with a more specialized function, such as a muscle cell, a red blood cell, or a brain cell.

Mesenchymal Stem Cells are specialized cells that are able to receive signals from the other cells in your body. Stem cells then seek out inflammation and degeneration and go to that location to begin repairing tissue.

Stem cells have been shown to help repair muscle, bone, cartilage and tendons. Research has indicated that stem cells can benefit a wide variety of health complications and may assist in inpiduals living stronger, healthier lives.

Why are Mesenchymal Stem Cells Important?

Mesenchymal Stem Cells contain three vital properties:

  • Inflammation reduction

  • Immune system modulation

  • Secrete exosomes that support tissue regeneration

Because umbilical cord derived stem cells are newer and less mature than other cells, the body’s immune system does not recognize them as foreign and the body does not reject these cells. Thousands of patients have been treated with umbilical cord stem cells without a single instance of rejection. MSC’s also proliferate more efficiently than “older” cells, such as those found in the bone marrow or fat and therefore, they are considered to be more potent.

What are MSC Exosomes?

Exosomes are extracellular vesicles – or small structures within a cell – released by stem cells as a reaction to injuries.

Exosomes, also known as “cell-to-cell messengers”, are excreted by one cell and communicate with another cell, telling that cell what action to take. It is one of the reasons why stem cells work!

MSC Exosomes are released by mesenchymal stem cells which notify a joint’s tissues that the time has come to begin the healing process.

Exosomes play an important role how stem cells exert their cellular functions on other tissues. MSC-derived exosomes are responsible for many of the traits commonly associated with MSCs, including tissue healing, reduction of inflammation, and fibrosis.

Platelet-Rich Plasma

Platelet-rich plasma, PRP, can amplify the body’s ability to self-repair & can help push the body through a healing process that might be stuck. PRP works in conjunction with mesenchymal stem cells and is best utilized as a support to your stem cell regimen.

What is PRP & How Does it Work?

Your blood consists of solid red and white blood cells along with platelets, which are suspended in a liquid called plasma. The platelets contain hundreds of “growth factors,” which are proteins that play are vital to aiding the body’s natural healing process.

We take the patient’s blood and spin it in a centrifuge, which separates the different components listed above. We then discard the red blood cells along with much of the plasma, leaving a high concentration of platelets and growth factors.

The PRP can then be re-injected back into the desired locations to accelerate the healing process.

PRP is used in our clinic as a complimentary therapy with stem cells to support the healing process. We find it can enhance the effects for our more severe cases.

What’s the Difference Between PRP & Stem Cells?

PRP is a simple way to “jump start” the body’s own healing process. Our body’s ability to heal itself depends on our platelets which are rich in growth factors. Platelets are attracted to an area in need of repair and begin to release growth factors which ultimately attract stem cells.

PRP is good for tendonitis, muscle strains, ligament sprains, and minor injuries. Stem cells are great for advanced conditions such as degenerative arthritis, cartilage damage, and rotator cuff or labor tears, etc.

Peripheral Neuropathy

Peripheral Neuropathy is a painful condition where the nerves in your hands and feet lose their blood supply. By improving blood flow and firing nerves appropriately, you can actually stimulate nerves to regrow and heal.
